Stretching has various advantages that many people neglect even though it helps the body in innumerable ways. Sometimes stretching on a repetitive basis can help someone to relieve his or her mental stresses while improving one’s health from a physical standpoint.
The human body is a somewhat flexible entity. It is supposed to be flexible. You must be able to bend over and reach something you dropped on the floor. You must be able to zip up the back of your favorite dress on your own. You must be able to reach that book you need to read that is sitting on the top of your book shelf in the living room.
Though these activities are trivial, they still require a person to stretch to a certain extent. If you are having difficulties performing such activities, you might want to enroll in a stretching program since you have already reached your stretching limits.
Stretching Affects a Person’s Range of Movement
The length of the muscles and tendons in our bodies are directly affected as we include stretching as one of the major parts of our exercise routines.
As a result of constant stretching of the body, in addition to anatomical tensions that are physically preexisting, a person can gain a significant amount of range of motion, especially when the overall movement of the person is concerned. This will in turn allow for various joints and limbs to move more accurately and efficiently in times of emergency, such as when someone needs to move quickly in order to avoid an injury that is about to occur.
It is easier to move when joints and muscles are stretched, in contrast to when muscles remain inactive for long periods of time. Also, stretching allows for injured muscles and joints to be retained in working order by providing for a faster recovery and a decreased amount of wound susceptibility as a result.
After stretching, the muscles can tolerate rigorous and active movements much better than if they had not gone through stretching at regular intervals.
Stretching Allows a Person to Increase Skills
When the body has the ability to make a wide range of movements, the person is able to participate in much more activities and also establish personal confidence needed to be able to perform functions he or she was previously unable to do.
For example, if you were to play basketball and noticed that you jump approximately 4 to 5 inches from the ground every time you shoot the ball, stretching will eventually allow you to jump much higher than before, and thus you will feel more confident in actively playing in the sport.
In addition, you will be able to engage in new sports and improve on the ones you already participate in.
Almost like a domino effect, stretching will help to improve your energy levels because of the fact that you will be able to make your movements in a much more efficient way.
Stretching also increases your awareness of the surrounding environment, and thus provides motivation so that you will not be simply sulking in the corner of your living room all day long.
